Who is running for Congress on the Eastern Shore?

This article is about the County of Accomack and who is running for Congress there.

The Country of Accomack is located on Virginia's Eastern Shore and is part of the 2nd Congressional District. Its economy is focused mainly on fishing, health care, and the space port at NASA Wallops Island. With beautiful flowing countryside and family farms, Accomack is one of the most scenic areas in the entire state.

As far as politics are concerned, two candidates are trying to unseat incumbent Democrat Glenn Nye; Independent Kenny Golden and Republican Scott Rigell. Both are military candidates, but while Rigell has 6 years in the Marine Reserves, Kenny has 31 years active duty in the Navy.

Scott is the millionaire owner and CEO of the Freedom Automotive Group, a wildly successful chain of local car dealerships. Community and church are very important to Mr. Rigell as he founded Trinity Church with fellow millionaire and Amerigroup founder Jeff McWaters. Tea Party activists fault Scott for donating $1,000 to Barack Obama and Mark Warner and $10,000 to the YES Campaign to raise taxes. He has also been accused of trying to buy the election as he has dumped over $1.5 million of his own money into his campaign.

Kenny Golden is a 31 year active duty Navy Veteran who retired in 2004 with the honorary rank of Commodore 0-6. Throughout his career he held 4 at-sea commands including two major amphibious task forces and the first helicopter squadron deployed on an aircraft carrier. He also served as the first head of the Policy and Plans Directorate at US Joint Forces Command and was the command briefer for three years. He was educated at Ferrum and UVA in education, Pepperdine in human resource management, the Naval War College in international relations, and Oxford University in strategic studies.
